Sexual Relationships That Aren’t (or Aren’t Anymore): A Why, How and What-to-Do Guide

During the course of our lives, we may find ourselves in a friendship where it doesn’t really seem like we’re friends, a partnership where one or more people in it sure aren’t acting like partners, or a romantic relationship that just isn’t romantic anymore. We might also find ourselves in a relationship we call, consider, or want to be sexual but which…well, isn’t or wasn’t.

While those first three things are by no means often easy to navigate or manage — and oddly easier to even name as lacking the element that’s supposed to define them — when a sexual relationship either isn’t sexual anymore, or potentially never really was, it can be trickier in a few different ways. In this era, particularly for people in their teens and twenties, even just sorting out what a sexual relationship is and what one is supposed to be like, and then standing up for your interest in one, can be truly complicated.
