What one thing would you drop?

When you want support through something scary or rough, and help pulling yourself together and getting through, this is the place.

We ask that users looking for general, ongoing emotional support post in this area of the boards, and that you use this space to both ask for, give and receive that support primarily from each other, rather than from our staff and volunteers. As a staff, we simply are often too overextended with all we need to do in running the organization and its services to do that for extended periods of time, and one of our main aims of our community at the boards has always been to facilitate peers to better be there for each other.

Users often report that they have no in-person peers they can talk to or seek support from: we want this to be a space for online peer support and somewhere everyone can get some practice asking for, getting and giving support so that doing it with people in your lives feels more doable.

Please remember that neither staff, volunteers nor your fellow users can provide or replace mental healthcare when that is something you need. Users struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, abuse or physical health issues are strongly encouraged to seek out qualified, in-person help with those issues in addition to peer or staff support.

What one thing would you drop?

Unread post by Jacob »

Here's a question that has really made me think recently, even made me a bit uncomfortable, but helped me imagine moving forward from some difficult times... I'm really curious to hear what people's answers are. Or if you don't feel comfortable answering it here, what you think about it in general. Here goes:

What one thing would you drop or quit at this moment to make you happier in your sexuality or your life in general?

(I heard this question posed on the Yes Means Yes podcast recently! Here is a link to the podcast feed: http://www.jaclynfriedman.com/archives/category/podcast)

This is a tough question! It's also interesting to have this worded as "what would you drop" vs. "what would you add" to make things better. Adding something is maybe more external, and dropping something feels more self-focused (although I can imagine other interpretations).
I'm not great at choosing one thing, whether it's a favorite something or one thing to improve, but I think I'd be best served by getting rid of my hesitation, whether that's a hesitation to approach people I'm interested in or a hesitation to bring up things that are important to me or to ask for things I need in a relationship. It's something I feel I've gotten better at in the past few years but I think it's still getting in my way some times.

It is tough isn't it! I guess it is more self focused, it probably ends up being more specific too.

I can totally relate to hesitation. I wish it came more naturally to me to speak my mind.

Right now, its temporary, but I want to just drop dating any people for a while. It has been a difficult time, and taking sex/relationships out of the equation, will give me some time to reflect and recover.
