Re: Buying book(s)
Hate to bump an older post, but through an excessive amount of planning, scheming, waiting, thinking and debating, I was finally able to obtain myself a copy of "S.E.X." off of Amazon. I found someone who was willing to hold it for me until I was able to pick it up. :) I haven't started it...

Re: Sex... and braces
Thank you Onionpie! Although I haven't had a partner I've needed to discuss such things with (or much of anything with, really), I always find it best to be prepared. And that's what I'm doing, and I'm proud of myself for it.

Re: Sex... and braces
I suppose it would depend on what you use. Plastic wrap (non-microwavable) would be very thin and probably wouldn't be a good idea. Cutting a condom or a latex (or non-latex) glove apart would probably be the best. I have no idea if places around here or wherever I would be when I wanted to engage i...

Re: Sex... and braces
Thanks Mo! You answer helps a lot!
It's not that I'm worried about breaking a dental dam, just more along the lines of accidentally cutting a hole in it. (which, I suppose, would be breaking it) I don't know if there are varying thicknesses or not, and if so, what would be better.

Sex... and braces
I have braces. I have them on for at least another year or two (sucks), and I will be going to college. I was originally worried about girls not wanting to date me due to them, but I realized that I won't be the only person who has them, and any girl who refuses to date me because I have braces isn'...

Re: HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
I think that this: we can forget that they're not about other people being so charitable as to give us their time, attention or interest, they're about us bringing each other things of mutual benefit, sums it up perfectly, Heather. Thanks for allowing me to realize that. I think I'll step my foot ou...

Re: HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
That's it! You're right in stating that if I don't make having a relationship with someone my main goal, but instead get to know them and see if something turns out, that certainly reduces the stress and pressure off of the situation. And even if it doesn't turn into a relationship or whatnot, then ...

Re: HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
Thank you Heather. I realize that now, that I've been looking at the whole "communication" think the wrong way. What I've been trying (only once, but it's worked that time) is to not separate people by gender in terms of communication, but to just see everyone I talk to as a person. (Does ...

Re: HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
Much appreciated, Karyn. :) That helps a lot. It doesn't make me sound as if I'm desperate while still asking if they'd know anyone who might like to get to know me better, which is what I'm really looking for. Regardless if her/anyone else turns into a relationship or not, I can still meet new peop...

Re: HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
Thanks for your input. You have certainly helped me clear some things up. I think i'd probably be a good idea to try and make more friendships and just talk to people. Even if I don't plan on ever being more than friends or anything, I can still gain the experience and boost my self-esteem that way....

HS, girls and relationships, oh my!
I'm a High School Senior. Although my social abilities have been better then they used to be, I still am stuck with a problem: I don't really know how to talk to girls. Hell, I'm not the best at talking to anyone, really, but I at least am better at it with members of the same sex. Sometimes I just ...

Re: Homosexuality and bigotry in family
Much appreciated for your excellent reply, Heather. Hopefully, I'll remember your idea the next time the topic is brought up. It's an excellent way to let my voice be heard with less chance of retaliation on the part of my parents. Thank you kindly.

Re: Homosexuality and bigotry in family
Thank you Mo. I agree that it is difficult, since my family (namely parents) is involved. You're correct in assuming that I still live with my parents, which is my main concern and the only thing preventing me from being able to speak freely. I think for now, it would best to keep a low profile rega...

Homosexuality and bigotry in family
(If this would be better somewhere else, by all means, feel free to move it!) Before I start, I want you to keep this quote in your head: Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. The grave will supply plenty of time for silence. -Christopher Hitchens This morning, my parents and grandparent...

Re: Buying book(s)
That would be a good idea, but I have neither a Kindle nor a Smartphone. Call me old-fashioned, but I like having the physical book. At least with not novel-type books.

Re: The Venting Room: Tell Adults to Stuff It
To my mother and father: I'm not sorry with who I am. I'm pro-equal rights, even the LGBTQ crowd you don't approve of. Why? Because I'm not a bigot. Because I accept people for who they are. Male, Female, Trans, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Questioning, etc. People are people, we're all human. We hurt, we ble...

Re: Buying book(s)
That would be an idea. I am enrolled in School. It still doesn't solve the problem of how to own them (which I'd prefer, because I like books), but it might work. In fact, I even sent an email letter to my Principal at the end of last year regarding sexual education in my school and requests to unbl...

You can check here: http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/ to see if there are any Therapists in your area. It's not a 100% list of all of them, but it should give you a decent idea. You could also check your local phone book (apparently they still make those) for a directory as well.

Re: Buying book(s)
I had a friend (I was being too lazy to create my own Account, heh) check the Amazon Locker thing yesterday, buy sadly, there are none near where I live. :( Much appreciated for your input, though. It would have been an excellent solution. Buying a cheap book, or even better, a book that I also want...

Re: Buying book(s)
Thanks Sam! That's a good idea, to weigh the outcomes. Well, I don't usually get any packages for myself. Usually my mother orders something and I add some other things, usually other books, onto the order. Then it all comes in one package, which she either opens and gives me what I also got or give...

Re: Buying book(s)
Thanks Sam! Especially for the quick response. I checked my local Library, and they don't have it in there. I checked the entire state Library registry (which I don't know if my Library has access to) and only ~28 Libraries in my entire state have the S.E.X. book. I didn't even check the Atheist boo...

Buying book(s)
Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster. Well, I have a bit of a dilemma. I would like to order the Scarleteen "S.E.X." book off of Amazon, as well as "The Young Atheist's Survival Guide". My parents know that I'm an Atheist (they aren't super happy, but they generally don...
