Re: What are the body talk norms in your family/friend group?

My family has been pretty bad about body-shaming talk, essentially, my entire life. I think its definitely had negative effects on my ability to find my body beautiful and worthy of love. Thankfully I have a couple of fat radical friends that I can be open and openly talk about being positive about ...

Re: How prepared did you feel for getting your first period?

When I got my first period I kind of knew what was happening from having older cousins, but not entirely. I actually ignored it the first time, and didn't actually mention it until the second time it happened. I was around 9 or 10 so my parents were definitely not ready. I had no idea what anything ...

Oh yeah! I totally forgot that you mentioned it in your opening comment.

Re: Cross-Orientation Sexuality

I was on Facebook today and a friend of mine posted this http://everydayfeminism.com/2016/07/cro ... ation-101/ and it's a great breakdown of what this entire conversation is about.

Re: Non-cis person at a women's college?

I think you'd be surprised at how many people feel the same way as you about their gender at a women's college. You should definitely follow through with visiting the school and talking to a tour guide or somebody else about your concerns. Typically the people giving tours are students at the school...

Re: When Was the First Time You Saw Yourself in a Story

Not a book or movie, but scary spice from the spice girls was the earliest representation of me that I've ever realized. When I was younger I gravitated toward her and I realize now it was because she was the only black one. Part of that was in the name also. All I've ever wanted to be was scary. I'...

Re: Cross-Orientation Sexuality

I think it's interesting the ways in which things being so commonly intertwined makes it so hard to see them as separate things. I know a handful of people who could be described as heteroromantic pansexuals, in the sense that they would have sex with any person but only honestly fall in love with t...

Re: Best Sex/Worst Sex

I'm really with Redskies on this one. The worst sex I've had has always been when whoever I was with was not being completely honest with me. I think communication is so supremely important in sex and when one person is holding back or isn't communicating it makes everything so much less enjoyable. ...

Re: What was the best relationship advice you've ever gotten?

When I'm in relationships I have this really bad habit of a) sticking with really dysfunctional folks that none of my friends like and b) losing myself in the relationship. A lot of the best advice I've heard comes from really corny "you're beautiful and you don't need anybody else songs" ...

Re: Oh, how I loathe "man up"...

This upsets me too. I think somebody else already mentioned how a lot of it is admonishing sterotypically feminine traits and congratulating sterotypically masculine traits. I especially hate it when it's applied to gay men. Like I have a gay male couple that I'm friends with and their both fairly m...
