I'm 18, I started having my period at 12, and it's been somewhat regular for the entire six years.

When I first started my periods were VERY heavy the entire seven days and happened about every four weeks. Once though I managed to have a full seven day period then a day off and then another full seven day period. This was when I was about 13-14. (Also, at this time I was CONSTANTLY throwing up with HORRIBLE cramps before and during my period, I suffered during that time.)

For about two years now, my period has been six days and heavy for the first two-three days, then scattered for the others, and it's about a 29 day cycle. I also get fairly severe cramps about a week before my period starts, and the first days.

Well, I started my period last Saturday (the 5th) and I thought it was over on Thursday (when it should be), but yesterday after work I noticed that my pants were stained so I'm like, ok, I'm back to seven days for once. But then I wake up this morning, and it's fine up until a few minutes ago while I was masturbating when I noticed that my hand was covered with red, and I knew it was my period because of the distinctive odor.

I know that periods can be affected by stress among other things, but I'm wondering is it strange that it's going back to being this long again? Also, could this be anything else? Should I go see a doctor if my period goes more than two or so more days? Or could it be related to the fact that I almost passed out twice at work yesterday? I don't know...part of my posting is because I HATE my period and I want it to be GONE. lol

Periods do tend to vary as you age ... What was normal for you when you were younger can change, and you can get a new 'normal' every few years.

A few moderate-heavy bleeding days during your period is normal. Some women also do have light bleeding or spotting for the remainder of their period. If you're not having heavy bleeding for the whole 7 days, it's generally more an inconvenience than a medical concern.

However, if you are bleeding heavily for all 7 days, this needs to be addressed. If you're spotting outside of the 7 days of your period, that also needs to be adressed.

When was your last GYN exam? Have you had one before? If not, you need to do so now. Many women believe they don't need GYN exams until they're sexually active, but this is not always the case. Your doctor, at the very least, should be asking about your menstrual cycles and possibly doing a visual exam and breast exam. If you have not had this done this year, now would be a great time.

Thank you. =] I wasn't aware that "normal" does change every few years. Especially since I followed my mother's and grandmother's patterns almost exactly with the exception of my heavier cramping/sickness in my early years.

It's just a bit annoying to be expecting to be over on Thursday and it still continuing to today (although with any luck it's gone).

And I am sexually active. =] Though since I haven't been on Scarleteen in ages, I shouldn't expect anyone to know that. lol I'm scheduled for my next exam at the end of the month...on like the 29th? Not sure of the exact date though.

Thank you for your reply again. =]
