BCP and ECP questions

Unread post by kiiiimibela »

I have couple of questions.

1.) Would taking a birth control pill (Aviane) and taking emergency contraception pill (Contingency One) at the same time affect the effectiveness of the emergency contraception pill? (I took the ECP 4 hours after intercourse) (Also, what I mean by ‘at the same time’ is that I swallowed both of the pills the same time lol, just to be clear)

2.) Do I need to take Aviane the same time everyday? Is it okay to take it a bit earlier/a bit later in the day everyday, or would that make it less effective?

My doctor said that it doesn’t matter what time I take the pill in the day as long as I take it everyday, but I’ve been doing research lately and the answers I get online contradict what he said.

Hi kiiiimibela,

1. The efficacy of your emergency contraception won't be reduced by taking it alongside your regular birth control

2. The patient information leaflet that came with your birth control will tell you whether you have to take it at approximately the same time (i.e. within a 2 hour window) every day or not as different brands vary

Hi kiiiimibela,

I want to add that, unless you live with a partner, right now is not a safe time to be being sexual with anyone. So, while it's good to know how to use a method correctly, effectiveness will be less of a concern for the next little while for those who don't live with their partners.
