Doctor question

Trying to look for free advice and maybe I could get an answer here?
I see my doctor for a little checkup every 6 months, and that next 6 month visit is next week. The one question she always asks me is if I have had sexual intercourse, and this time I should be saying yes. What happens if I say yes? Do I get an obgyn exam? Will my doctor do the exam during that visit or will I see an obgyn doctor? Will some blood be taken to check for STDs? I'm trying to calm my nerves on this and an answer would be nice.

Hi Sunland05,

There's no single set of questions or instructions that come after you tell a healthcare provider you're sexually active. Instead, what they'll usually do is ask follow-up questions to determine how being sexually active is interlocking with your health needs. That often includes questions about birth control (especially if you're someone who can get pregnant) and STIs, with additional care being recommended based on your answers. It's also a time for you to ask questions of them as to whether there are things they recommend you do to manage your sexual health. Does that help at all?

Thank you Sam, your answer makes me feel a little better.
I'm going to ask for birth control. I know I can get it for $25 a month without my mom knowing.
And I I've only been with one guy, nothing more. And we used a condom each time. Hopefully that keeps me away from any serious OBGYN stuff🤪

Hi Sunland05,

Good to hear that you have a health plan and that you and your partner(?) have been safe. If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask!

I wouldn't say he's a partner, more just a really good friend. I like him, and I trust him, but he's not my type. We talked about sex quite a bit, but in a friendship kind of way, but then I decided why not. Am I stupid for that?

Not at all! It's good that you both discussed it together, as I imagine it helped you build a good rapport, you know? We're very sex-positive here at Scarleteen, so as long as you feel good about it and you're using protection, I'm not going to judge you!

(I mean, it's not my business to judge you anyway)

The stupid comment was meant to be sarcastic, and I won't judge you for you judging me :D
I can't believe it happened, the sex that is, but we were really comfortable together and it was a wonderful first and second and third and fourth and fifth time.
Plus he knew what he was doing, LMAO! Why his girlfriend broke up with him I will never know.
