One of my favorite LGBT movies right now is The Half of It, which I saw on Netflix. Set in rural Washington state, a boy asks a girl at his high school to write love letters to the girl he has a crush on on his behalf. The movie explores romantic feelings but also friendships, cultural identity, and life transitions.
An LGBT YA book I like is Boy Meets Boy! I find its tone light and playful, and the LGBT aspect is never over-dramatized. Basically, it imagines a world (2003!) in which everyone's LGBT identities are normalized.
