I am 13. I have been masturbating for a while now and nothing I try "feels great". I am about half way through puberty. Am I not sexually ready yet?

Learning what your body likes, especially for the very first time, can take a while! Every body is different and reaches sexual maturity at different times/in different ways. I don't think this means that you're not ready to try masturbating yet; it may just mean that you still have some experimenting to do.

Have you read our article Going Solo: The Basics of Masturbation? It has a lot of great info for getting started.

Could you please explain what you mean by in different ways?

Hi weirdo7,

I think what Alexa is referring to is that puberty won't look the same for every person; some people will experience certain changes earlier or later than others.

Also, I want to add that for most people, puberty isn't over until the early 20s. It would be pretty unheard of for someone to be halfway through at 13.

Of course, that really likely doesn't have much to do with pleasure from masturbating. More often, the issue you're having with that is that it just tends to take people time -- we never really stop learning, honestly -- to learn what we like.
