Re: I want to come out, but...

Ah, I follow. Okay, then maybe the most you can bank on from your dad is that he'll support your orientation so that you won't feel totally unsupported by your family? As for what questions to expect, that's a little tricky, and hopefully some of our users and other volunteers can add to what I'm ab...

Re: Buying book(s)

Hi Nitehawk,

You're welcome. I think it is worth it to weigh the most likely outcomes (both positive and negative) and then see if you feel like ordering the books is worth it.

Do your parents generally open mail or packages that come for you?

Re: Travel and Period Irregularity?

Hi repsev, There's no way for us to know for certain what the cause of the cramps might be. But, if you think you're due for a period, then that's definitely one possibility. However, if the cramps continue without seeming to link to a period or get significantly worse, you might want to check in wi...

Re: I want to come out, but...

Hi Silentdragon, It sounds like you've already been working through the possible outcomes of your coming out, which is great! I think your decision to talk to your mom about your sexuality prior to a partner entering the picture is a sound one. One thing that might help you is to write out (literall...

Re: Travel and Period Irregularity?

Hi repsev, Periods can vary in their arrival times for many reasons, although travel alone is unlikely to cause the irregularity. You can read about some of the most common reasons in the link below, but it can also help to remember that our bodies are not perfect machines, so you're cycle can be ir...

Re: Buying book(s)

Hi Nitehawk, This is a bit of a toughie, and hopefully some other folks might have some more suggestions. However, one thing I can think of is checking the library in your town (if you haven't already) to see if they have those two books, or if they can bring them in from another branch for you. It ...

Hi natcmau, For your first five posts, you'll only be able to post in certain areas (you can read which ones here: http://www.scarleteen.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=24 ) Luckily, in the area you've posted this question in, we have a few topics going that are meant to be conversation starters to ...

How do you express intimacy?

So, a little while ago we published this article on intimacy: Intimacy: The Whys, Hows, How-Nots, and So-Nots Taking what that article says about intimacy and all the ways it can be expressed, what does intimacy mean to you? How do you express it to the people you're close to? Do you find that the w...

Re: Overweight and birth control effectiveness?

Hi Jirish, There are some physical and wellness factors that may mean the pill is not the best choice for someone, but weight by itself is not one of them. Plus, when your healthcare provider is helping you decide on birth control, they are factoring in things like weight and your health history whe...

Re: Question

Hi Aj,

So, this is one of those scenarios where we're not 100% comfortable saying it had no effect on your pill. However, it takes 2-3 hours after taking a pill for the pill to absorb, so if the vomiting happened after that window, then it would not have had an effect.

Re: My hymen didnt bleed When it tore. Is this Normal ?

Hi Lisa, So, avoiding that pain has less to do with the corona/hymen and more to do with your own arousal level and how relaxed you feel. So, some ways to to increase your comfort and minimize the chances of discomfort are to make sure that you're feeling warmed up enough before penetration (you and...

Re: am i being too pushy?

Hi Noa, I think the most sound decision to make in this situation is to have a talk (if you haven't already) with your partner about boundaries around sexual stuff. That way, you'll both be talking explicitly about your desires and boundaries, so nobody is having to guess if they're pushing someone ...

Re: Possible pregnancy risk?

Hi Willow, If you've had what looked, felt, and came at the same time as your period, then you can assume that was your period, and that, by extension you're not pregnant. However, if you're still feeling like you need confirmation , taking a pregnancy test is something you can do to get that confir...

Re: My hymen didnt bleed When it tore. Is this Normal ?

Hi Lisa, It's likely that what you felt was your hymen (or corona) stretching. You can read more about that here: My Corona: The Anatomy Formerly Known as the Hymen & the Myths That Surround It You might also want to check out this piece, since it sounds like penetration is still causing some di...

Re: Inducing periods

Hi hopee,

Nope, there is not really a way to induce a period. There are ways that a person can try to regulate their cycle (like via hormonal birth control), but not ways to make a period come exactly when you want it to.

First Experiences with the OB-GYN

Something we see some users being nervous about going in for an exam with a gynecologist. So, for those of you who've been, were you worried before your first visit? What were you worried about? If you weren't worried, what helped you be that way? Is there anything that, in retrospect, you'd wish yo...

Re: If unwanted pregnancy happened in my community, your adv

I think this is one of those situations that's very tricky to discuss in the hypothetical , because how to approach it would depend very much on the individuals involved. Of the couple, they'd need to decide what consequences they'd be willing to face and how likely they are to occur, and what they'...

Hi Morad,

Just to clarify, when you say cause to kill, are you referring to a law that says that the penalty for unmarried pregnancy is death, or to a practice that's common in the culture?

Re: The Fault In Our Stars

I loved TFIOS when it came out as a book, and I'm glad to hear that the movie kept the tone and spirit of the book. I'm with Redskies that the characters have always read as very realistic. There's a good balance between snarkiness and cynicism and genuine sweetness and vulnerability. I also feel li...

Re: Alternative Menstrual Remedies

I just want to second the bit in the original post about the stick-on heating pads. You can get a pack of three for around 8 bucks (the size that says it's for wrist and neck should work for most people) and they can be lifesavers if you need to be at work or school a day when you're having bad cram...
