Our Spirit believes that the true basis of life and religion is love and that all people deserve to be loved, including – especially! – youth who don’t fit the straight and narrow vision of sexuality. Our Spirit uses the broad reach of the internet and the intimacy of film to help youth develop tools for self-acceptance.
There are people everywhere who identify as LGBTQ and are happy. There is no “gay lifestyle.” Instead, there are millions of people figuring out how to live true to themselves. Some live in cities, some on farms. Some are married or in committed relationships.
Some churches may still be loudly homophobic, but there are many, many churches and devout Christians throughout the world who embrace all of God’s children, who know that it’s okay to be Christian and to love a member of the same sex.
The medical establishment also thinks that being gay is okay. The following organizations have stated that homosexuality should not be treated as a mental disorder and they oppose attempts of reparative or conversion therapy. They believe that sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed.
The American Medical Association
The American Psychiatric Association
The American Psychological Association
The American Psychoanalytic Association
The American Academy of Pediatrics
The National Association of Social Workers
The American Counseling Association
Know that you’re okay and that your life can be beautiful. As always, know that you’re loved.
