The Sexual Assault service is a specially trained group of nurses, nurse examiners, doctors, and counselors on call to support and care for people thirteen years or older of any gender who have experienced a sexual assault within the past seven days. Anyone can request this service at any time by going to the Emergency Department at Vancouver General Hospital and requesting help from the sexual Assault Service.
The Sexual Assault Service will provide treatment and documentation of injuries sustained during an assault, STI testing and treatment, emergency contraception, medical report for the police if the patient chooses to report, and referrals to legal, community, and other health services.
This service is available to everyone without charge, including people who are visiting British Columbia from other places within Canada, or from outside Canada.
