OK, I didn't know exactly where to put this topic on the boards, so I hope this is in the right category. But here goes...
1. I understand that rape happens because the rapist wants to be dominant over the other person and wants to subdue and suppress them. What I don't get is WHY it is so damn common. Why is it that most women can expect to be raped at least once in their lives? I thought it was a fairly well known fact that women aren't just walking vaginas, but the stats show otherwise... Are we back in the 18th century or what? (I understand that male rape occurs also, but the stats are much lower than for females....) I haven't ever been raped and don't know anyone directly who has (or is willing to tell me about it), so maybe this is why I don't understand, but I would appreciate it if someone would explain...
2. This isn't really a sexual question but here goes. Maybe I am just being naive but I sincerely don't understand the purpose of drinking. I suppose people do it to feel happy or to forget their problems, but honestly why can't you do that through "natural highs" which come with a lot less consequences? Also, I've drank a little before (never gotten drunk or anything, just experimental a few times) and all I ever felt was dizzy and a bit disoriented. I don't get why that's so exciting and why EVERYONE I know who is over 16 drinks or has drank before. Even adults who drink a glass of wine with a meal. What is the purpose? Can someone please explain.
The subordination of women has been going on for far longer than the 18th century. So we're not really "back" in the 18th century, it's that some things unfortunately haven't changed much since then.
If she sees this, I bet Miz Scarlet would have a better answer than that for you regarding part A.
Part B, though, I can relate a bit on. Drinking is a choice. Like eating fugu [delicately prepared blowfish--a highly poisonous, difficult to prepare creature], it can be a dangerous or a responsibly-handled choice. To me it's definitely an acquired taste.
Some adults drink a glass of wine with their meal because to them, it enhances the flavors of their food. Some like the taste or the buzz, or the lack of inhibitions that comes with being rip-roaring drunk [nevermind the splitting hangover the next day]. If you don't like to drink, then don't. I don't and I'm fine with it. If you do like to drink, do not ever get behind the wheel while buzzed, and wait until you're legal, or you'll be in danger of getting busted for an MIP/MIC.
