This article came across my desk today, and I wondered if any of you have some thoughts on it, or experiences you'd like to share.
These findings say that LGBT students in the UK often choose not to participate in university sports because of experiences with homophobia, either within the university team or during earlier school experiences.

I would say that this makes a lot of sense. Even in gym class in grade nine (both the last time I was required to take it, and the last time I took it) I felt very awkward in the change room because I was afraid people would think that I was checking them out and that I would be made fun of. I hadn't really figured out that I was queer yet and even then didn't feel comfortable in the change room.
On another note the comments to that article really underscore how rare a safe and respectful space like scarleteen is. The comments made me very annoyed.

Yes, I like the way a friendly, respectful and truthful atmosphere maintained by the staff and volunteers, combines with the required anonymity of site users, to provide a rare and valued safe space.

Moonlight, I can really relate to that (plus I wore boys/mens boxers by choice from a fairly young age so I was always terrified of getting gender-related grief in changing rooms as well).
