Alright, so... rather than try and explain my complicated school situation, I'm just gonna act like I go entirely to Fig's school, okay? Okay.

For our school, we occasionally put on student written/directed/acted plays. It's perfectly normal for the plays to incorporate a straight relationship in there, though obviously there are rules. (You know, like, nothing past kissing onstage, no implied sex, etc.)

However, it came to Fig and my attention that our principle might not let homosexual relationships into the plays. I was originally under the impression that hand holding was alright and the existence of said relationship was okay, but... it seems that Fig was given different information.

Now, hearing that our PRINCIPLE is being homophobic and therefore not allowing any gay/lesbian relationships into any of the plays... It got us thinking. Is that against discrimination laws? Can we appeal to some higher power and get him to change his mind?

What state are you in again, Devanie? And is this a public or private school?

Okay.

This is probably some of the most relevant information for you: http://www.acluutah.org/gsa.htm

My suggestion would be to contact your ACLU in Utah, and their contact page is here: http://www.acluutah.org/help.shtml

If you want a personal reference to someone in the ACLU in Utah, however, I can contact my ACLU person in New York (I've worked with them for many years) and see if he can suggest someone. But you should do just fine via their usual intake process.

Absolutely. If you don't hear back within a couple days, holler at me and I'll get on the case!

Good on you, Devanie, for being so proactive about this. So many people feel helpless in these situations ans so just roll over and accept discrimination. My hat is off to you for wanting to fight it!

Okay, just an update...

Our friend "E" will probably be entering his play which has a gay couple into said theatre thing. Fig might also enter his, but I'm not sure.

If the plays are not accepted on the terms that they have a homosexual relationship in them, I'll contact ACLU and our school's GSA club.

If things work out pleasantly, then our school will not feel the wrath of the mighty Devanie.
