I don't know if this is the best place for this, but I felt the need to express it. Yesterday (friday) morning, I turned on to the Today show and they were showing the story of a woman who was raped and then, 20 years later, her rapist contacted her to apologize. She had never pressed charges, but she did now, and the man was sent to prison. That's all ok, but what I really didn't like that the today show said "She was raped in her first year of college, her virginity stolen ..." [Mad] WHY do people continue to equate rape to sex?! That got me SO mad. How can they possibly say her virginity was "stolen" by a rapist??

The next frustration was during Chemistry. We were in the ICT room, and I had finished my work. So I was going to get on scarleteen because I needed to review the female reproductive system for a biology quiz. And I wasn't able to get on! Scarleteen was blocked for being a sex ed site! WHY do they block sexual education sites in schools, and then wonder at the student's ignorance?! I'd understand if I was looking for porn. But It said "blocked for sex; education/enlightenment". [Mad] . If people are so worried about us, why not give us access to good information at school?

Per your school, write a complaint. Point out that you needed the information for a TEST. Might get the point across.

Per the first....well, one big ugh. Says a lot about the value of women in our culture (and how sexual value is often placed above all else); says a lot about how people don't understand that a rapist co-opting sexuality isn't the same as a rapist OWNING anyone's sexuality, nor the same as a woman consnsually having sex.
