Something I've discovered recently (since I've gotten my own computer, anywho, and turned eighteen, and have been free to look at what I want)...

Apparently. in the world of pornography, it's a "fetish" to prefer looking at women who don't shave off all or most of their pubic hair. This bothers me. I thought that a fetish was a sexual obsession with something that's usually not considered sexual (i.e. feet). The word has kind of a connotation of abnormality associated with it. Pubic hair is obviously sexual, obviously normal, and totally natural; most women have most of theirs, so it follows logically most of the women that consumers of pornography have seen have their pubic hair. I would even go so far as to posit that most people prefer it.

So, what's going on here? Any comments?

I'd say you're looking at a fashion, and questionable advertising. Pubic hair is natural, but at certain times, it's been fashionable to have a lot of it, to have a little bit of it, or to have none at all, sort of like like how sometimes sleek hair styles are in, and other times it's mullets. Not really a big deal. But calling various pubic hair stylings a fetish makes them sound a lot more exotic than they would otherwise. Why sell plain ol' porn when you could have nude, barely-legal, lesbian, kinky, fetish, barnyard . . . well, you get the point. It also adds another word to make it show up in internet searches.

We can't rewind, we've gone too far

Technically speaking, a "fetish" in sexological terms is an object (usually inanimate) which incites sexual desire.

So, while pubic hair is usually seen attached to a living human being, in the context of work whose aim is to objectify as well as simply talking about pubic hair itself, yes, it can be a "fetish" just like a foot fetish or anything else.

It's also sound to note that the majority of porn purchasers remain men, not women.

I HATE the shaved fad.

Girls (and guys) at school have actually been offended and reprimanded me for saying I don't shave. I understand it's a matter of preference, but I still think it's disgusting and borders on pedophilia.

And the MOST offensive question I was asked was "Wouldn't you shave to please your boyfriend if you had one?" NO! I'm not some object! I'm not gonna take a razor to parts that sensitive just so it can look "pretty" for somebody!

Honestly, because "shaved" is THE look for an overwhelming amount of porn (would I be exaggerating if I said 95%?), it's become just as stigmatic in some circles for women not to shave their privates as it is for them to not shave their legs or armpits. It's funny: when you're young and about to hit puberty, your pubic hair is a sign of pride and womanhood, showing that you are transforming and evolving into your future state. A lot of girls are ecstatic about their first pubes. Then, just as the excitement is beginning, this big brick hits that now that they are "sexual creatures", their sexuality automatically fits like a nail in wood into male sexual desires, and the pubic hair has GOT to go if they ever hope to be desirable partners. I am not kidding when I say that I have a close male friend who literally is unable to perform with girls who are not completely shaved. He says that seeing the pubic hair, or even just feeling the slight brush of it against his penis immediately deflates him and he loses all sexual desire. This is a MAN of twenty-something saying this. Can you believe it? My abusive x-girlfriend is an artistic nude fetish model, and she quickly discovered that she couldn't get ANY assignments without chopping off the bush. It's almost as though it's not decent or something to put a woman infront of a camera with her pubic hair in tact... hence why, in the porn world, it's almost downright taboo and extreme to have any sort of attraction for the natural female body. Rather than treat what is natural as the norm, porn sites advertise EXCEPTIONS to the rule: "Check out our hot NON-breast implant girls!" or "Check out our hot NON-shaved girls! You won't believe these naturally bushy women! Woohoo!" Fortunately, porn is NOT an accurate reflection of real life--at least not directly--but it DOES INFLUENCE real life... especially in the sense that most of this porn is geared towards men, so men watch it, pick up an ideal, and pass/pressure it onto their female partners. (Or females watch it, thinking it's what men want, and so design themselves according to that ideal.) I think a lot of young men are actually SHOCKED when they transition from the porn world to the real-live-person world and realize that WOMEN GROW HAIR THERE! I would just LOVE to see the look on their faces when they pull down a pair of panties and scream, "Holy ****, what is this?" [laughs to self]

On a closing note, I'm personally all for pubic hair. It looks good, [graphic moment]feels nice to play with[/graphic moment], and protects you from bacteria. I tried shaving it off ONCE... but I looked in the mirror and felt as though I was 8 years old again. And did anyone ever BOTHER mentioning to me that growing back pubic hair ITCHES LIKE A YOU-KNOW-WHAT?! Not really. Haha. Ok, it's 5:31am and I've been up all night. Time to sleep. Oh yes. Mattress and feathers and blankets, oh my!

Hey, guys, while we appreciate you taking part in the topics, this one is about two years old, and we have a number of shaving discussion topics in Body and Soul. If you'd like to continue this discussion, can I request you go there?

Also, don't forget our Shaving FAQ [Smile]

I understand how this discussion differs some since it's related to shaving and pornography/male interest/etc. but it's still in line with what I'd like to be keeping to one forum in the already overboard number of topics we get on it, make sense?

Sorry to re-hash such an old topic.

Those stories (the nude model and pube-a-phobic guy) were terrible, RedGoddess! Ugh. I'm SO glad I've never had an experience that bad.
