(Don't know if this is the right topic to post it in, if it ain't, admin please move it to the right topic) As somthing for everyone to ponder on...what if sex was NOT fun. What would the world be like. Would people still do it, would we all be here, would there be so much damn controversy in this world? What do ya think?

What if the moon was made out of green cheese? What if pigs had wings? What if the Red Sox hadn't traded Babe Ruth? What do these have to do with anything? They're all hypotheticals. And while we could go round and round and round with them, there really wouldn't be a point, would there? Be careful with these, Rev. They'll make your head spin.

I'd assume that the reason sex was made to be enjoyable was so we'd do it and propagate the species. If sex was made to be a chore, this would have a negative effect on population growth and so on and so forth.

But you see, the problem with this little hypothetical is that it is a blanket statement imposed upon a world full of different people. Some people already think sex is a chore, and conversely some people would no doubt find it enjoyable even if it were not considered "fun" anymore as per your query. So even as far as a hypothetical question is concerned, this is flawed logic that cannot really be answered one way or another for certain.

Of course there would, you know that. There would still be religion and money and power and land and gold and Helen of Troy to fight over. It may be a common belief that sex causes controversy, but I've yet to see war break out over it. There will always be something to cause problems, sex is just one small piece of that puzzle. Don't make it out to be bigger than it is.

If sex weren't fun, I think children would be much more well-behaved. There's gotta be some incentive for propagantion.

Sorry, how would it make children more well-behaved?

Not to get all "churchy" on you guys, but I believe that sex is enjoyable because God wanted humans to be able to experience pleasure. This is one of the reasons I am waiting until I'm married (tentatively: Spring 2005, after junior college), obeying him in thanx for allowing me to someday experience it. I hope u could follow that. I'm really tired...

Well, it wouldn't necessarily. (I was trying to be funny, i think i failed.) If sex weren't fun, children would need to be more well-behaved because otherwise, why procreate?

bluefreak44, I disagree with you totally. But whatever you believe is fine with me, just don't shove that belief on others.

Confused boy, in reply to your sig (which I assume you put up on my account?)
Trotsky was a moron. He was just like Stalin and Lenin, he wanted a communist state where he was in charge.

Zeed, he's had that signature for years.
And quit it with the personal attacks already. I don't care whether you have it in for a politician, another poster, or anyone else, this isn't the place to slag them.

Oh....I didn't know he had that sig for years, since I HAVEN'T BEEN AROUND HERE FOR YEARS!!!

I had posted in this thread: http://www.scarleteen.com/forum/Forum8/HTML/000717.html on bush and marriage being only hetrosexual that I was an anarchist. I THOUGHT (not knowing that he had that sig for years) he might have read that post and in replying to my thread he might have added that sig to throw in his political opinion of anarchists. But since you informed me that he has had that sig for years I was wrong in saying he put it up because of me.

Though, I still believe that about Trotsky. Its called freedom of speech. Its a right, in the united states, at this time to be allowed to talk about ANY political figure (even if hes long dead and from another country) in ANY way you like (including current presidents who are making arcane laws that discriminate). You can hate him or love him. And I personaly dislike Trotsky (not as much as I dislike Lenin or Stalin, but I do dislike him). If you don't like my saying that trotsky was a moron, then don't read it or say to your self I'm an A-Hole. But other then that mind your own business.

And by the way, I wasn't Slagging anyone, I was replying to somthing on this thread under a mis-assumption.

And I'm not ATTACKING anyone PERSONALY...for that to happen they would have to be posting on this board. Its called politics when you "attack" a politician "personally", and this is the sexual politics board. Its not asthough my saying bush is a hipocrit and an a-hole is gonna offend him when hes all the way out in washington DC and prolly never been on this BBS. And if it offends a bush supporter when I say that, I'm sorry, but you offend me when you support bush, or post anything in support of bush (etc. etc. etc.). But you know what, I don't tell them, to quit offending me with their political opinion, I let them have there opinions...sometimes I may have a healthy debate with them, but I don't tell them to "stop offending me with your tripe".

I'm sorry for making this post totally off topic, and I don't mean to start a forum war...it just pissed me off when Milke is telling me I can't express my political opinion about trotsky or bush when its ON topic for a thread.

And now my on topic reply, with my opinion on the idea of, "What IF sex wasn't fun".

Well, first of all, acording to evolutionary theory as far as I know it, sex evolved to being fun, or pleasurable, as an incentive for procreation. Hence if sex wasn't fun (ei, if it didn't stimulate private parts, and if it didn't release the chemicals into the brain),it might be thought of as a chore and some people might not want to do it.

I also think that if sex wasn't fun most kids wouldn't be as quick to do it, or at least it wouldn't occupy their minds as much as it does (I know this disregards the idea of hormones...but aren't they only half the drive that makes people want to have sex, the other half is the desire to feel good).

Also, sex might not be considered a hetrosexual only, act if it wasn't as fun as it is. But then again who knows...

All I can say is good darn thing sex is fun.

-----------
As I tryed to get across in the first post, this was THEORY!!! The point of this post was to try to get people to imagine what life would be like if sex wasn't pleasurable or fun.
------------

BTW, the above is not a sig, its just a note.

I'm a moderator. I'm supposed to read what's posted in this forum, and tell posters when they're behaving inappropriately, or violating the Guidelines. And cool as freedom-of-speech sounds, this is a privately run board; it's not your right here. Quite simply, this forum exists for discussion and education; we're not here for soapboxing and starting flame wars. While we're cool with people expressing their feelings on politics and politicians, we expect them to be expressed intelligently, and with coherent explanations given; not name calling and lurid speculation on strangers' sex lives. That's unnecessary, and it doesn't belong here. I realise that you didn't know the origin of Confused's signature, but that's why I told you. And I appreciate that you're trying to keep things peaceful, and don't mean to come down on you too hard, but it really is necessary to try not to be inflammatory.

And to answer the original question, I'd imagine if sex wasn't fun parents would be literally locking up their teen daughters when they went into heat, and threatening to get their sons neutered. And it'd be solely a heterosexual act, since there'd be no reason to do it but to reproduce (not that you'd really care if you were gay anyway, because --).

In answer to your question (or rather exclamation), Rev Zeed, your opinion is quite valid. Trotsky, like anyone who has ever had a shot at huge amounts of power, probably was an idiot. But he never actually got it, so we could give him the benefit of the doubt and romanticise about what could have been (world wide socialist utopia... anyone?).

The quotation, far from being a new addition, is almost anachronistic, suggesting political views which I used to sympathise with (when I first joined these boards) and now do not so much. Strange... when I first arrived here, I was confused about sex but sure of my politics. Now I am far surer about sex (thanks to being attentive to this site) but not so on politics.

Oh yes. You seem to be awfully interested in other people's sexuality so you may be interested to know of a rumour I once heard about Trotsky. Apparently, he was awfully fond of watching units of the Red Army kitted out in their leather. But who knows...

Anyway, please do your best to comply with the moderators as it is the only way to actually get yourself heard here for any amount of time (for good reason) and it would be nice to hear your views on all the subjects that come up here. You remind me of a brasher Michael Moore and would be a pity for you to be unfortunately silenced.

On topic: if sex wasn't fun... everyone would be living 50% of my life 100% of the time. The reason: sex causes me at least as much anxiety as it does pleasure. I imagine that isn't too different for many people. I assume that there would still be some kind of impetus to have sex as otherwise the human race would rapidly cease to be.

Hm. If sex wasn't fun, I'm sure we would all find something else to occupy ourselves with, obsess over, condemn endlessly, and think about. Like peanut butter for instance. We could have save the peanut advocates and some of us could hang huge posters for safer peanut butter usage in the community.

Hmm...my answer really depends on when sex is not fun, evolutionarily speaking. If it provided no enjoyment for any species, then I think evolutinary development would have either just ground to a halt as soon as something evolved sexual intercourse as there would be no reason to do it, or would have come up with some version of humanity that reproduced without sex as we know it...maybe like salamanders or fish do it, where the female deposits an egg and then the male fertilizes it separately...it would be interesting to see how reproduction would be viewed then, since there would be really no way to go through the motions of it as sex for pleasure is now. Would it be seen as some sort of holy priviledge? Or a chore that you have to do once or twice and then get it over with? And would we go into heat or just be inconvenienced once a year or so?

Unfortunately, I am afraid not everyone thinks that sex is fun all of the time. Some people do view it as a chore or spousal duty. Maybe they don't always feel that way, but sometimes they do.

There was a point in my life when sex wasn't a fun thing for me but instead something I was doing in a lame attempt of taking back my own sexuality.

It is true, however, that I probably like dozens of others started having sex not because I was ready, but instead because the media and my peers made it into such a big deal, leaving me left out. Making sex into something that sounded far more intriguing and building up my expectations, also put me in a place to feel that sex wasn't fun.

On the other hand, when I as grown up enough and had the right mindset and right partner, sex was one of the most wonderful things I could have ever done.

I hope it never gets back to the point where sex isn't a good thing for me, but it could and that's probably something I will have to work through.

sometimes sex is not fun. think of all the women in countries where female genital mutation is alive and praticed. sex is not fun for them and it has also been reported that sex is not fun for the husbans who pump and hump on a woman who only lays there. for many couples sex, is only to cary on the family name through a child.

What do you mean that "it has been reported that sex is not fun for..."

Who's reporting this?

Sex being not fun has been a myth carried around parentals, and etc.

I personally believe that sex shouldn't be resulted as a chore or a social pressure. Sex shouldn't be a result in misleading that some men actually love them when it was only to get into their pants.

I personally believe that sex is enjoyable for me. I had sex for the first time at 17 (March 2001). Surely, it wasn't totally a whopping fireworks display but it was enought to not to regret the deflowering of my virginity. I never had sex for the guy or for the sake of the brief relationship i had with the guy at the time. It was a personal and private choice. I now have the most amazing and fun sex with my boyfriend of almost two and half years (Nov. 27).

Back to the actual question, i can't accurately say how the world would operate without sex being fun, but i personally that sex shouldn't be all that loose, meaning that it should at least be engaged in a loving and romantic relationship (even prior to marriage). I personally do not have a problem with pre-marital sex or sex being used for pleasure, other than the typical reproduction.

I personally believe that...

My parents never said that, their common response to my budding sexual interest was that it was something I would do with the man who married me in a Southern Baptist church. If anything has influenced me into believing sex wasn't supposed to be pleasureable, it would have to be the stuff I have read about Victorian women and things I have experienced.

Sex isn't always so neatly and cleanly defined by what your paragraph says it is not. Sexuality problems and stigma can arrise from so many other things. example Disease of the mind is a cause I know too much about. Simply because certain acts against you (i.e. rapes, assaults, molestation, and a host of other sexually related situations that are negative interactions) can reinforce bad sexuality stigmas.

And while I guess this is all opinion... personal beliefs don't always make sense.

Also who said sex is about love all the time for everyone anyhow?

as an aside, I believe sex will probably always be used as a power device over people. It maybe wrong, but I just don't see it ending soon. Probably not because it is fun or not, just because it is what we are led to believe normal people do and it is an easy way to try fitting in.
