This might be the wrong website to ask this on...but we are kind of all young/college age ect and I figured maybe someone else has this problem...
I graduated from college with an Associates. I have a degree, and skills but can't find a job because I don't have the experience. I was thinking an internship might help. I would learn on the job, and see how I can use my skills in real life situations, under some supervision right?
Only...I can't find one! Where are they all hiding? I have been googling them and either they seem very far away or my area doesn't seem to have any. I am sure this is untrue because I know people who went to another college who have had internships in this area! Only, to have the help of that college to get me an internship I'd have to go there for 2 years...
My college doesn't seem to help me. They have a website and refer me to that website...which has one job that is in my degree. And it is a job...not an internship.
Any ideas? Can I just pick a place close to where I live, give them my resume and ask if I can intern because I am interested in their business? [Frown]

I know a lot of you are having this issue right now, and I agree: if you are unemployed and yet, also don't have to support yourself, internships are a GREAT move to get some job experience and also just being doing something with your life that engages you.

Want to fill me in on what country you're in and what area you're looking to work in? I can probably help connect you with some resources to look for internships.

(Mind, one thing to know is that if you're finding that where you're at has no jobs AND internships to offer, it may also be sage to start thinking about if you can possibly plan to move to an area where there are more work opportunities.)

Thanks Heather
I live in Pennsylvania and was looking for something in around the Lewistown/Harrisburg even State College area...The only thing is, cost of gas (driving 50 miles or so) might keep me from that if it is unpaid...which I understand some are unpaid but I don't know if I can drive that far with cost of gas you know?
I was also thinking of going back to college perhaps. There is a small college in the area I live. I am very interested in one of their programs. Only, the cost of tuition there is making me hesitant on that...I don't want to go into debt over a college, or an internship either [Frown]
However, there has to be internships out there. That college requires you finish one to graduate...and the students seem to find them/or the college does a good job to help them.

I'm sorry I was unclear: when I asked what area, I meant in what field of work.

Ah. I'm afraid that's far outside my area of expertise when it comes to work opportunities. If you were asking about youth-serving work, or sexual health, I could likely have helped some, but this is just very outside what I know about or what we do.

By any chance, have you visited a local employment office in your area? Or even a temp agency -- where you like CAN get work, and most likely with duties relevant to this?

There is a career center at the school I graduated from. I visited them for a mock interview and feedback on my resume but they are no help with connecting me to employers.
There is a career center in my area. They are helpful sometimes and have a website where employers can post jobs...all the jobs I apply to I am "not hired"
I am considering temp agencies if it doesn't clash with the part-time job I have now...

Can I ask how long you've been going on interviews for so far?

I've had two interviews starting last summer. They tell me my resume is good but alot of times I send a resume and get a "not hired" message.

I have applied to alot. First I sent out resumes to all businesses in the area that I would be interested in working for (and some that I wasn't but my mom suggested)
Next I used job posting I found on the career website and applied to what I thought I was qualified for. I only got one interview out of those, maybe out of 25 that I applied for.
I did get hired by the grocery store I am working for now...but they did not see my resume (I used their application) and I interviewed with them.
