So, I've been on Ortho Evra for almost a year, and every month my insurance pays for it completely. Well, except for this month. Apparently, my guardian was a little slow in filling out my insurance renewal papers, so I currently have no insurance, which means I have no patches. Luckily (well, so I thought), my gyn's office offered to give me a pack of patches for free. So, I get the patches and I'm all happy, but for some reason I decided to look at the expiration date. They were expired. Well, that sucked. So, today's my patch change day and I have no patches. My guardian's going by Planned Parenthood a little later to see if she can buy them there. I already have a prescription, so she should be able to, I think. I could get them from the pharmacy, but honestly, they're overcharging highly for them. 70 dollars, I mean, that's expensive.

If I was just using the patches for sexual activity, I don't think I'd be as worried as I am now, since I could just stop engaging in sexual activity for a while. But, I use the patches mainly because I have Von Willebrand's Disease, and without the patches my period is EXTREMELY heavy, at least two weeks long, and I usually have to spend a day or two in the hospital because I pass out. I take 7x the daily recommended dose of iron and yet, during my period, my anemia still isn't under control.

I'm just so angry right now. Seriously, shouldn't the gynocolegist keep the birth contol they give out up to date?

It may have been just a simple mistake on the part of your gyn's office- is it possible for you to swing by and ask if they have newer patches? (I can't imagine them refusing to replace the expired ones if they can, that would make no sense.)

While I don't know too much about Von Willebrand's Disease, usually starting the next cycle of HBC a day late won't make a huge difference. If you get it today, you probably won't experience much of a difference in terms of your withdrawal bleed.

I called the office, and my gyn said that she checked all of the patches they have and they're all expired. They won't be able to get new ones for a week or two.

So, it won't make that big of a difference? That makes me feel better, because I REALLY don't want to go back to having the periods I used to have.

I have a new question: Will starting my new cycle of HBC a day later compromise its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy? I'm not having sexual intercourse, but I do have oral and manual sex with my boyfriend.

One day really shouldn't make a difference with your symptoms, no. [Smile]

And, putting your new patch on one day late shouldn't make a difference with your protection either- but if it would make you feel safer, you can always back up your patch with another method of birth control, such as condoms.
