Okay...so I have to get a gift for my boss' 30th birthday. He's a male. The reason why I have to is because I have been invited to his surprise birthday party (outside of work) and feel like I should.

What in the world do I get him? I don't really know his tastes and preferences. What would be classy (but not too personal) for a 30-year old male boss? Without a clue of what he likes in general? [Confused]

This might be a really stupid idea, but the first thing that popped into my head was a tie. Does he wear those at all?

Have you ever seen him reading a particular genre of book?

Do your other co-workers know his tastes and preferences any more than you do? Maybe you can ask around?

You might have already thought of all this, but I just thought I'd ask. I always find it really hard to get gifts for any guys.

A small gift card to a bookstore like Borders or Barnes & Noble is always a good way to go too. There's something for everybody there! If you're not into reading, you can use it for music or movies.

Gift cards to clothing stores are good, too. At 30, should I guess Gap and Banana Republic?

Starbucks cards are also popular.
