Girls on growing up
I am currently attempting to gather articles for a book I would like to compile on the topic of growing up female. Although there are many books like this out there at first glance, this book is going to be different because it’s going to be completely honest. There will be no “how to put on makeup” guides or “how to get a boy to like you” advice articles. What I’m looking for is a collection of stories and advice columns by real girls and women of all ages. ***Anyone who identifies as a female is welcome to submit to this collection.*** Also, if you identify as male but feel you have something to say on the topic of girls/women/growing up female, then I'd be glad to read over your submission and consider using it in the collection.
I’m not sure if this will go anywhere, but I think that there are a lot of unique individuals out there with something to say, and this anthology will provide girls to find out what it’s really like to live in the world. Although at the moment I am looking for just about anything, I will include a few questions/topics to get you started. Please feel free to submit poetry, works of non-fiction, Q+A columns, statistics (make sure to provide where they came from), etc. I just want this book to be raw, moving and most of all, real. So if you’ve got something to say—anything to say—about growing up female, type away and send your submissions to [**Please do not post email addresses**] -- There will be no pay (unless somehow or other this happens to get published), and I’m honestly not even sure where this is going—but at the least I will be compiling all the stories on a website for girls around the world to read.
Some suggested topics to write on…
Body image, Commercialism/ the media, suicide, cutting, high school, middle school, peer pressure, drinking, drugs, fitting in, -not fitting in, college, jobs, boys, girls, sexuality, sex, online, movies/tv that have effected the way you see the world, news, politics, gender, race, religion, “when I was young,” other decades, growing up in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s… etc. As I said before, anything goes. Hopefully what you send in will help me figure out exactly where I’m going with this.
Just talk to me- in writing.
Once again, please send your submissions as Word attachments or direct e-mails to [**Please do not post email addresses**] Include your name (note if you would like it to be kept anonymous), age, location (country is fine if you do not want to get specific), and a brief bio or any other information you’d like to be included with your piece.
I look forward to receiving your work!
