I've been watching the news recently, doing my bit to try and keep up with current events and some of the things I've seen recently have really... disgusted, for want of a better word, me.

I'm not talking about things like the situation in Iraq, or Israel, or anything like that, but two events in particular. The first one happened a while back in the UK, where a divorsed father killed his wife and son. What could drive any normal human to do that, I just cant understand it. That and the CCTV footage they've released in america of that woman shaking and slapping her child really violently as she puts them into the car. It makes me sick how any parent could do those kind of things.

War is something that we've come to accept I think

As it says at the beginning of Black Hawk Down.

But parents beating and killing their family. ARG, it just makes me sick.

Sorry- I needed to get that out

Well, that despite...

I agree with you 101 percent. Seriously, I can't stand to see children getting abused or yelled at in a certain tone of voice. It makes the child grow up with alot of insecurities. I think that is a reason why when I get older, I want to maybe be a social worker or work somewhere in those fields.

But yeah, it disgusts me too.

I tell ya, that video out of Indiana shocked the hell out of all of us too. My jaw pretty much dropped open last night when I first saw it, and then we all had to watch it at this morning's Briefing before the beginning of our shift. Those with kids were clenching their fists, those without felt equally enraged. Later in the day we actually got three separate calls from concerned citizens who were disgusted and wanted to know if there was anything they could do to help. Now, being 2500 miles from the incident meant there wasn't much we could do, but it just goes to show how many people saw the video and had it affect them.

Child abuse is insidious, and this is the first time some people may have ever seen such behavior. If there's anything positive about this, maybe its that having people see this video will make them aware just how horrific true child abuse can be. And with that as the case, perhaps more people will stand up and take notice when and if they see similar behavior around them.

last i heard, they have not managed to track down that woman. have they done so by now? i never saw the footage, but reading about it made my heart sink into my stomach.

well, it's been taught to me that life is suffering. that's the central doctrine of buddhism. but dangit, does there have to be so *much* suffering???

i read the news pretty constantly. i hear about things like women being murdered by her family to save face, china imprisoning AIDS activists and political dissidents, people beating their cihldren, a prosecutor in my hometown was murdered in retribution for doing his job (and doing it well, actually).

yeah, makes me wonder what kind of world this is.

They have indeed. She turned herself in to the local authorities today, claiming that she hadn't been "hiding" at all. But one look at her says otherwise...her hair in the tape was a light blonde, her hair at the time of her surrender had been dyed deep brown. People tend to change their appearance when they know they're being looked for, and I'd imagine that made things more difficult for those who looked for her.

She blamed the media several times for getting people all riled up, and then lashed out at the local child protective service authorities for remanding her child into temporary foster care. I found that pretty galling, to say the very least.

I can't stand that! I think on "Maury" they were showing shocking videos a bit similar. One babysitter was beating the child and it upset me so bad. I'm not a parent but I plan on being one and when I see an innocent child suffering like that, it hurts. This may sound a little intense but that would make a parent want to kill someone who harmed their child. Give them pay back even though they can't relieve what their child went through its horrific.
