I'd have to say, the best love song is from the movie Moulin Rouge. It's called Your Song by Ewan MacGregor. He's soo hot, great actor and even greater singer!

Oh yeah, BTW, Serafina, this is a place where you post things about relationships and stuff. You should have really posted in the All About You section. I have a feeling this will be moved there later on.

oh you young'uns, you don't even know who did "Your Song" first.

Ewan only covered the song. which is not to say he didn't do a good job, but he's not the first to popularize the song.

Elton John wrote that song with Bernie Taupin and it came out in 1969. Then Rod Stewart covered it sometime in the 80's.

you wanna hear Ewan's best singing??? Rent the movie 'Velvet Goldmine,' he really rocks out in that one!

Gumdrop, I knew it was done by Elton but I liked the Ewan version better. And thanks for the recommendation of the movie. I'll definitely have to check that out!

Phranc - Lifelover - Sweet, quirky, political, queer girl-singer. Not nearly as well known as she should be.

Beatles - And I Love Her - These guys had dozens of love songs, but sometimes nothing beats a sappy Macca track.

John Lennon - Grow Old With Me - Very sadly and ironically released posthumously. If you can find a version without violins, do so.

A New Found Glory - Glory of Love
Bon Jovi - I'd die for you
There's a song on the Shrek soundtrack, called You belong to me. I don't know who sings it, but it is an amazing song.
Alice Cooper - You and Me
Nirvana - Son of a Gun
Crazy Town - Butterfly (try really listening to the lyrics, they are very relevant to my relationship at the moment)
SWV - Love is so amazing

I just edited this to point out that these are not really slow songs, but ones whose lyrics i like... next time i will pay more attention to the topic... doh!

i just wanted to clarify something...i was just reading the post for best love song and come what may IS an original so yay for that. another one i'd have to say would be...hmnn...that's a really hard decision but i guess i'd have to go with, at the moment, there you'll be by faith hill. it's just for the moment so it'll probably change soon or something...

Jason Wade does it on the Shrek soundtrack. It's been done by several people, I don't know who did it originally.

Many people who know me would be surprized that I have a list like this. (Well, actually, I'm only just making it into a list now, but there have always been a number of songs that I think are my favourite romantic numbers.)

In no particular order-

When You Say Nothing at All- Ronan Keating
Something- The Beatles
Eternal Flame- The Bangles (remanent from my teenybopper days, but I still like it )
Make the World Safe- The Whitlams
Love- John Lennon
Sway- Bic Runga

And I have to say, if you're talking about the Shrek soundtrack, I really like I'm a Believer, although I prefer the original version, by the Monkeys.

Well, I suppose they're not love songs in the traditional 'kissyface' style, but they're songs that I like, which happen to be about love...

The Angel with the Good News
-Zumpano

Doreen
-Old '97s

(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher
-Jackie Wilson

I'm one of those people who like love songs that are actually truthful to what love is as opposed to making it flowery and always happy. There are so many times when love is confusing, but somehow, most songwriters seem to over look that.

Here are a few of my favorites, with that in mind:

Head Over Feet, Alanis Morissette (of course )
I Touch Myself, the DiVinyls
My Favorite Mistake, Sheryl Crow

Those are just off the top of my head... and, while they're not exactly "love songs," they're the songs that I like to relate to that oh-so confusing, and sometimes hurtful, emotion.
