I read this poem and i really liked it so i decided to post it here. Hope you like it too .

The Paintbrush
I keep my paintbrush with me, wherever i may go, In case i need to cover up, so the real me doesn't show. I'm so afraid to show you me; afraid of what you'll do, I'm afraid you'll laugh or say mean things; afraid i might lose you. I'd like to remove all the layers, to show you the real, true me, but i want you to try to understand; i need you to like what you see.

So if you'll be patient and close your eyes, I'll remove the coats real slow,
Please understand how much it hurts to let the real me show. Now that my coats are all stripped off i feel naked, bare, and cold,
And if you still find me pleasing you are my friend ,pure as gold. I need to save my paintbrush though, and hold it in my hand,
I need to keep it handy in case someone doesn't understand. So please protect me, my dear friend, and thanks for loving me true,
And please let me keep my paintbrush with me, until i love me too.

Rachel, I actually read that poem to my eigth grade english class. We were assigned to bring in or write a poem related to us, and I chose that one. I believe it's featured in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. I remember I got it from some Chicken Soup book. It's really a very open and true poem, isn't it? I love it! Thanks for posting that.. I'm sure everyone else will enjoy reading it .

Really? It might be in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul, but I got it from Taste Berries for Teens. Yes, it is very true I like it a lot! I could really relate to it I think that's why I like it so much.

could this this poem get any closer to real life?? if it could i'd like to see it. this totally discribes what a lot of people go though. my self being one of them. and its sad to think that a lot of people never take down those layer of "paint" they just keep them up to try to be someone they're not. and most of the time people like the real them better then the layers.

Abby o yah that was an EXTREMLY good peom, thanx for shareing it.

That's a really good poem. It's so true too. So few people are brave enough to completely be themselves, and be really happy with themselves. Thanks for sharing.
