Does anyone know of anywhere where someone can get counseling and it wont cost them an arm and a leg? I want to get help but I don't know how. I've called the numbers in the phonebook and the prices are way above my means. I don't want to call a hotline, I want to go to counseling where I can actually make some progress with someone and finally get my past behind me instead of it constantly tormenting me. There is a place here called the crisis center here that says they offer free counseling but I think it's for people who are currently being abused. What about people that were abused in the past? Some days my thoughts make it feel like it's still happening now...every day it is there waiting for me to be still just long enough so that it can remind me once again of who I am. Is there anything like that for us?

Call that crisis center: often, there's not a time limit for counseling based on when you are abused. Even if they don't offer counseling for survivors, they can likely refer you to a local resource that does.

xneed2knowx, I wanted to second Heather's recommendation. I can say from experience with medical stuff that when you find a good medical/health-related place (be it a good doctor, women's center, even a HIV testing location) that you like, they can recommend you to like-minded locations and individuals. Also, while in college in a rural area, some friends of mine saw a queer-friendly counselor who charged just $5 a visit for students. If you're in a more densely populated area, chances are you have even more options, it's just finding them! Good luck [Smile]

Okay, I will give the crisis center a try. If they can't help me hopefully they can refer me to someplace that will. Thank you both.
