I have a friend/aquaintance who has just revealed to me that her father has been abusive and that she is scared of him. I want to direct her to some reading, and have searched, but cannot find anything pertinent. Help?

What kind of reading? I don't necessarily think self-help would be enough, but a few books on my wishlist re abusive dads are:

The Verbally Abusive Relationship: How to Recognize It and How to Respond
by Patricia Evans

Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men
by Lundy Bancroft

The Secret of Overcoming Verbal Abuse: Getting Off the Emotional Roller Coaster and Regaining Control of Your Life by Albert Ellis & Marcia Grad Powers

Bear in mind i haven't read these, but intend to.

Even though she may not want to hurt her father.. she needs to let someone of authority know.. because abuse is really hard on someone's mental thoughts.

Thanks Daenerys. She has told a cousnellor, and they havn't done anything yet. I found that odd. I'm working with her to get her family some help, and to get her out of the house, so we'll see. Thanks for the books and info, too, Jacob. Very helpful.
