To me, infatuation is more shallow and either fades over time or ends when we're faced with the things we don't like about the other person. Love is deep and more permanent and it happens when we've learned all the ins-and-outs of our partner's character. My problem is that I told my boyfriend I loved him shortly after our three month anniversary. Now I worry that I was being foolish in saying that and don't actually love him, but am infatuated and can't tell the difference. (He is my first, so I'm not experienced.) I'm worried because I read things like, "Relationships feel great the first few weeks or months while there is enough to discover about your partner to keep you interested and there hasn't been any time for a serious conflict." -And that's how people define infatuation. It's true, he and I have only known each other for a few months. It's true that I feel great about him. It's true we haven't had a major conflict.
I would like to build a serious relationship that lasts. I thought I had been, but now I don't know. Without any other experience to compare this relationship to, how can I tell if it's the real deal?
