My boyfriend and I's one year anniversary is coming up in August. I am not sure what to get him. He is 21 and I am 20. Neither or us drink, smoke etc.. We are also waiting till marriage. Any ideas of what to get him? I'm not sure.

Well, without knowing more about him, this is a tough one. What kinds of things is he into? What's his living situation (dorm, with parents, his own place)? College students? What's your budget?

If you can supply us with more info about him, we might be able to come up with some good ideas...

Find out something they want, then find a way to get them it. For example, my current girlfriend mentioned she'd really like a simple silver pentacle pendant. (seen here as an earring http://www.paganpresence.com/images/mg373.jpg), and she gave me an image with a ruler.

Believe it or not, some jewelery is really easy and simple to make. This, for example, could be done by buying about 10-30 grams of precious metal clay silver (depending on size, how many attempts, etc), which is about a dollar fifty a gram (varies regularily). You mold the clay into your shape (which would be best done by flattening it with a rolling pin the cutting with a scaple). You fire it with a 800 degree chemical torch, then polish it.

Another example - one of the things I keep mentioning I want is a pair of arm bands (you know, like headband/touque material), one white that says "why?" in black, one black that says "why?" in white. I'll probably end up sewing them myself, but just watch for things they show an interest in.

He's into electronics, like vintage speakers etc... He lives in a house with his aunt but is moving out soon. I know he wants a wireless keyboard and such.. My budget is fairly large. Thank you everyone for your help so far.

As a guy, I can say (and I apologize in advance) that at that age I would have enjoyed a cool thing (like, to use your example, a wireless keyboard) much more than I would have liked something with emotional resonance or sentimentality.

But there's a way to be the cool girlfriend and do both. What is passionate about? For example, does he have a band he obbesses about? Then go on Ebay and find a cool autographed poster or the like. The first Christmas my current GF and I spent together, the gift I liked the most was the Replacements keychain she somehow found, bought, and put into my stocking. It cost her $2, and I absolutely loved it.

A few ideas that spring to mind for me are:
Buy a record from one of those bands that he doesn't have yet, and put tickets to their concert inside.
Get him a watch - a watch reminds him of you every time he looks at it, but it's really useful and flashy too. Like the new red Omega one. In fact, if you could get that for me maybe... [Wink]
The wireless keyboard sounds great too. In fact I saw something for a virtual keyboard where an image of a keyboard is projected onto your desk, and you hit the images of the keys. If anyone knows where to get this please out the link on. Thankyou please. [Smile]

Thanks Joseph. I think I'm getting him a keyboard. I found a nice one and I showed it to him and he agrees it is what he is looking for. I just hope he doesn't realize I am really getting that for him.

It's also myself and my boyfriend's one year anniversary at the end of this month..

We're really into the sentimental type of gifts..but both really like practical things versus dust collectors..

So, I put together a calendar for him. There's several online photo processing sites you can use.. load up pictures, customize your own dates and such, and they print it off for you.
It's really sweet but at the same time practical cause its a calendar [Smile]

Photo cubes are awesome also if you wanna do a little something for sentimental value.

Jewllery is good too. As was mentioned each time he looks at it he'll think of you [Smile] For instance, an ID bracelet is really cool.. The one's you can get engraved [Smile]

I had gotten my boyfriend a chain for christmas and for our one year have got him the matching bracelet also.

And on a totally different note.. You said he's really into music, how about an iPod? or the like? If you order an iPod online you could get free engraving and engrave something cute into it [Smile]

Just a few suggestions [Smile]
