How about writing letters -- not email, LETTERS.
I've been in a handful of long distance relationships during my life -- the last of which precipitated my own move her to the frozen tundra we call Minnesota -- and more than telephone calls, more than short visits, it was paper letters that always really kept the intimacy alive for me, and which really stabilized relationships with distances between.
if you're not talking about emotinal, but about sexual intimacy, the thing is that you really can't have much of a sexual relationship when you aren't both in the same room. While the phone or computer can fill some gaps, they can't make the basis of a sexual relationship. In my experience, it's best to develop other aspects of your relationship when you're apart, and work on your physical relationship when you're together.
I'm going to movbe this to the relationships forum so you can get some more replies to it.
