My girlfriend had a memography done today. She has a giant lump in one of her breasts. it has been detected as fibroadenoma. It measures around 5 cm long. Doctors have asked for surgical removal. it seems to be non cancerous. There was a little discharge of blood in the night. Can she be pregnant??
Is fibroadenoma and pregnancy got any relevance??
Please help!!

Is there any reason for you to believe your girlfriend is pregnant? Is she expecting her period?

As far as I can tell by my research, fibroadenoma tends to be seen in women between the ages of 18 and 35. It is generally non cancerous, and may not necessarily be removed. 5cm is not an uncommon size. It is not a sign of pregnancy. The only other thing I found regarding pregnancy was that during breast feeding, the lump may grow, because it thinks it can produce milk as well. After breast feeding, it will usually shrink back to it's original size.

If your girlfriends doctor wants her to have it removed, then it is just to be safe, as fibroadenoma is not cancerous, and is not pre cancerous.

If this situation is stressing your girlfriend out, then it is possible her period may be wonky this month. Stress can cause spotting, as well as completely missing a period. If you have had a viable pregnancy risk, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have her take a pregnancy test, as long as it has been at least 10 days since the last risk.
