My boyfriend has what looks like a deep zit on his penis, but it's been there for about 3 days and he's scared it could be a cyst, cancer, or something else. He doesn't have medical insurance (paying for college so he can't afford it) so are any of those things common or can it be common to get zits on there?

**Also there are no STDS involved
and it's nothing sex related because we simply haven't for some months now.

The shaft of the penis has skin just like any other part of the body and is capable of getting pimples/zits. It could also be an ingrown hair and a few other things that are NOT cancer (or anything serious).

So, ask him to stop freaking out. If he's really concerned about it (and it sounds like he is), he should see his doctor about it (you can look for free/low cost clinics in your area, or he can ask about health services at his college).
