it was posted in an earlier thread that you can get herpes through "hand to eye" contact. What in the world? Could someone clarify that? The idea of "eye herpes" makes me slgihtly uncomfortable. the reason I ask is because I think I have a cold sore coming on my mouth and I've been touching it every now and then and sometimes rubbing my eye.

Matter from a sore, whether it's an open sore or even "crusties" can spread the virus. You are only shedding the virus when you have an active sore. However, saliva can help to spread the lymph or pus from a sore.
