Hi there. I just had a question about whether or not my experience would constitute 'missing' a pill. I take my pill at 8pm. This evening, at about 11pm, I felt quite ill and had one loose bowel movement, which resolved my issue. I have IBS, but it hasn't concerned me with regards to the pill because my stomach upsets usually occur in the morning, which allows plenty of time for absorption. Because I've received a bit of mixed information about how bowel movements can effect the pill, I took a spare pill from an extra packet to be sure.

I just wanted to know if that was the smart/necessary thing to do. Would that have been a 'missed' pill had I not took the extra one?
Also, if the extra pill was unnecessary, are there any negative side effects I should be wary of?

Thank you very much. This site has been a wonderful source of comfort and clarity to me. [Smile]

Given that there's a medical condition involving your digestive system in the mix here, I don't think we're the right people to be able to tell you definitively whether or not that would've been a missed pill and whether it was necessary to take another. It does seem wiser to err on the side of caution with your contraceptive coverage, though.

One extra pill wouldn't do you any harm. Per any possible side effects, the best place to find that information is probably in the patient information leaflet that came with your pill pack.

The packet information doesn't refer to extra pills, except in the case of a suspected overdose. Fair enough. But, does taking the extra pill ensure that my protection hasn't been compromised?
