I was told to start my birth control after I received my period. However, I have not gotten it yet and it's about 2 weeks late. I took a pregnancy test and I am not pregnant. Is it bad if I start my birth control anyways?

No. You can start a birth control method any time you like, it's just that -- I presume we're talking about a hormonal method -- starting at a time other than the first day of your period, or by the first Sunday after means two things:
1) You will need to be sure to back up your method for one full cycle, since it may take longer to become fully effective. Mind, we advise backing up anyway, especially with condoms for STI protection.
2) It may take a little longer for your periods to get on schedule with the placebo times of your method if there is a placebo time, like with the pill, patch or ring.
