Hi there,

If I had sexual intercourse on the 14th, and then three days later (17th Feb), I took my pill at 18:00 but then vomited about an hour later- however, I have not had any intercourse after that. Am I at risk? I am due for my period this next week.

Thanks so much.

We also used a condom when we had intercourse.

You already were using a backup method -- condoms -- so unless the condom failed, you'd not have a risk to worry about regardless.

It's up to you if you make up that pill or not, but if you didn't see it in your vomit (I know, you probably didn't look through it, or anything, most folks aren't going to do that when they're ill enough to be upchucking), it probably got digested just fine. And if you always use condoms regardless and plan to through this cycle, I see no need to sweat this.

Would I have to worry anyway even if I was not using a back-up method? Due to the fact that it only happened three days afterwards, and I have abstained from anything for the rest of the cycle?

If you weren't using a backup, and you also didn't make up with an extra pill just in case, then yes, I'd have had concerns about your pill possibly being less effective.

But that's not what happened, and if you keep backing up with condoms, it also won't be what happens in the future.

So I shouldn't be worried? Because I am stressing quite a lot about this.

Can you look back to my first reply to you, where I addressed what actually happened, and what I said about it?

I can't stop you from worrying: it's up to you to manage that. All I can do is tell you what I did, which is that you used a condom as backup, so unless it wasn't on the whole time or broke or slipped off, you can be assured that even if there *was* any issue with your pill, the condom did its job and did NOT fail.
