I know a girl in her early 40's who was rushed into emergency surgery yesterday, as it turned out she had an ectopic pregnancy that she had no idea about. Thing is she had her tubes tied 15 years ago. How is it even possible to get pregnant after being infertile, and is a tubal litigation a cause of an ectopic pregnancy?

Tubal ligation isn't 100% effective (although it's very close), so pregnancy is possible even after the procedure. It can also result in ectopic pregnancy sometimes, so it's possible that's why your friend ended up with an ectopic pregnancy.
