Today I was getting my haircut at a hair salon, and as part of the package they give customers a hand massage. As part of the hand massage, I dipped my hands into a small handbath that contained warm liquid for a paraffin hand wax before putting on gloves for moisturizing.

I'm not sure if this liquid had been replaced since the previous customer used it. At the time, I had a hangnail sore on one hand and a small cut on my other hand.

Does this put me at risk for HIV transmission if, for example, the previous customer(s) had cuts on their hands to allow HIV-infected blood to enter the liquid? Would you recommend HIV testing as a result of this incident?

I've never heard any HIV risks associated with manicure services so no, I'd not be concerned about this.
