Last month my period came a few days early when I was still on my active pills (this is unusual). I still took my pills as usual, but I was wondering if my pills are still effective since I was not bleeding for half of my inactive pills?

Breakthrough bleeding is not known to be any indication of a pill being effective or not in terms of pregnancy prevention, so long as why it happened wasn't because you missed pills.

So long as you are taking your pills properly like that, you have every reason to expect your pills to prevent pregnancy.

But if you don't feel secure enough with that, you can always back up your BCPs with another method, like by using condoms.
