I was doing some reading up on vaginismus, but I wasn't able to see if there's a way of diagnosing. How can someone tell if she has it? I know that many, many times when I've been (enthusiastically) sexual with a guy, even then I dread PIV intercourse. Could vaginismus be what's causing it? Except I'm able to handle pelvic exams and tampons just fine. So I'm not sure. If I did have vaginismus, it would explain a lot though, but how is it diagnosed?

Vaginismus is a physical response where the vagina basically clamps itself shut when anything is introduced to it: fingers, a tampon, a speculum, a penis, a sex toy, what have you.

It is understood to most often be caused by a psychological issue, but it's a physical response, one it does not sound like you have.
