Is it normal for menstrual blood to be a darkish red/brown colour?
And sometimes will it come out in sort of...clots? Or is it supposed to always be liquidy?

Both of those are very common. The "clots" you're seeing aren't actually blood clots, though: they're bits of the endometrial tissue that gets shed when you get a period.
