I have been on BC pills for about 10+ years now. Recently I was having lots of breast pain so I decided to take a few weeks off after my last pack of pills. I started back up and had sex on my third day after restarting and had the condom break. I took two pills that night (thought it might help) and then went on with the pack which I finished on Monday. Normally I get my period within 2-3 days after that last pill but still nothing late Friday night. I had cramps for 1 1/2 weeks or so (starting a while I still had a week + of pills left to go) with no bleeding but they stopped Tuesday or so. What I'm wondering is does it vary how long it takes for the hormone levels to drop enough for the withdrawal bleeding to begin or is it pretty much the same every time? I hate this waiting game!

Just so you know should there be a next time, some BC pills CAN be used as emergency contraception, but not all, and the ones that can need to be taken in a specific way. Just taking two probably didn't do anything, alas.
What I'd say is that given you DID have a condom failure and it also hadn't been at least a week since your pill restart is to go ahead and take a pregnancy test now. For sure, it may just be that it's going to take your body longer than this to get back in the swing of the pill and the placebo period, but since the risk was there, I'd go ahead and take that test.

That's what I was thinking and I feel like a moron for letting it happen! I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and have been forever. I was gonna skip the withdrawal (which I know doesn't work as well with the tri-phasic pills) but I'm kinda glad I didn't. If it doesn't start overnight I'll go get a test....I hate this nervous feeling! Thanks
Do you know if there is a good mono-phasic pill that would be a good switch from the tri-cyclen? I'm a little overweight and was worried in the past about switching to a different pill so any suggestions would be helpful, my gyn's just always ask what pill I want so I've gone with what I know!

Your gyn is actually the best person to ask about that; they've got your medical history, what pills you have already tried, and it's their job to make sure you are on one that you feel comfortable with. If your gyn is just asking you what pill you'd like, you need to speak up and ask them what they think would work best - again, that's their job.

I got my period around midnight saturday/sunday but it was very light. It didn't even last 36 hours...should I still take a test or does the bleeding rule out pregnancy?

You might want to test once it has been more than 10 days since the risk just to be sure.

by the risk do you mean the condom breaking or 10 days after the bleeding? It's been 3 weeks since the condom breaking and a few days for the bleeding
