What's the difference between spotting, regular period, and bleeding after intercourse/masturbation?
Usually when I'm on my period the blood's red and this is just brown, and I'm not bleeding as much as PMS (just using panty liners) so I have no idea what's going on. It's been "bleeding" for about 3 days now, could have been from masturbation but I really don't know. Can someone help me, please?

Spotting: scant to light appearance of blood, no heavy bleeding, blood can be bright red to a darker brown, does not continue for more than a few days and does not get heavier.
Regular period: this can vary depending on the woman, but generally starts out light and gets heavier over time. May lighten up at end of period. Can present anywhere from bright red, medium red to a darker brown depending on day in cycle.
Bleeding after masturbation and intercourse usually indicates a cut or some sort of injury, which means the blood will be bright red and may look like spotting (unless a serious injury has occurred). This should last no longer than a few hours to a day and shouldn't be very heavy at all; anything longer and we generally recommend seeing a doctor as there could be a serious injury.
Are you due for your period soon? It's not terribly unusual for a woman to spot just before and/or just after her period, so if you're close to be due, this could be it.
