Hi, I wasn't thinking tonight and i ended up taking my pill 3 hrs early (at 6 instead of 9) i was just wondering how much of a concern this should be and how much precaution i should take during sex. I always take my pill at exactly 9 so this is the first slip up in a very long time. Thanks so much

In Love

A few hours shouldn't cause a problem. Generally, you have about three hours either way in which to take your pill, so taking it a few hours early once (especially if you are usually right on time) is no cause for concern. If you like, though, you can always use a back up method of birth control for the next 7 days.

With the pill, you have a three hour window (either three hours before or three hours after your normal pill time) in which to take your pill. Also, a combined oral contraceptive pill is not considered missed unless it's been over 12 hours from the normal pill time. Of course, it's always best to check your pill insert. If you are worried, you also always have the option of using a back-up method like condoms.
