Heya,

I've been with my boyfriend for over a year now. For a while when we had sex I was using the nuvaring and we used condoms as well. After this summer I went off the nuvaring for a couple of reasons and now we only use condoms. The problem is that whenever we have intercourse the condoms seem to slip a bit. I'm not sure how much of this is the condom truly slipping and how much is paranoia, but when my partner is spending the whole time holding the condom so it doesn't slip it kind of ruins the mood. Is there something we're doing wrong? (For what it's worth, in the next few days I plan to schedule a gyno appointment so I can go back on the nuvaring.)

It sounds to me like he may just need to try a different fit of condom.

Sometimes, condoms will fit because they're too loose at the base of the penis, but then others because it's too snug, which I know seems confusing, but it is what it is.

If you don't know which it might be, I'd just try one of each and see.

It's okay for them to slip around a little, it's just that you don't want them to slide TOO much or slip off into the vagina, because then you're looking at a condom failure.

It just slipped a little around the base. Should I be worried?

How far did it slip, more than halfway or not ? Did any semen leaked out of the condom and came into contact with your partner's genitals ?

Next time, you might want to try another brand of condom with a smaller ring size if you find that the brand of condom you're using right now has a ring which is a bit too loose for you. A condom that fits you properly shouldn't slipped off.

Too, when you withdraw, are you holding the base of the condom ?

Here, you might want to take a look at this, some brands of smaller-ring-size condoms are listed in there :) :

I found one that fits well now but it did not slip off more than half way and i am unsure about any semen leaking out.

Your partner should be okay in terms of pregnancy if the condom slipped off nowhere near all the way and no semen leaked out of the condom.
