I have had a hard time finding a straight answer for this question.

Is HPV something that just exists?
Is it something that humans just have? As in, can someone that has never had any sexual contact carry this virus? I realize you can't really know whether or not someone has previously participated in sexual activity. But for the sake of a direct answer, let's assume a person has never had any sort of sexual contact, and they have had no rare "wrong place at the wrong time" experience that could lead to them contracting the virus, could they have HPV?

HPV is spread by mucous membrane and skin-to-skin contact and, more rarely, through vaginal birth (mother-to-child). As far as I'm aware, HPV doesn't suddenly occur in someone spontaneously.

The STI Files: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) gives an overview of HPV.

I hope this has helped answer your question!
