Hi, i have been on the pill for about nine months now. I am on antibiotics (have taken 6) and it is Ceclor. My boyfriend and i had sex and he finished inside of me. I just wanted to know what the chances are that my protection could be compromised. Now, i am not ovulating (have hardly any discharge and what is there is white and thick/creamy. Also, i have been on this antibiotic 4 times while i have been on the pill and have had sex and not gotten pregnant. my withdrawal bleed came at exactly the same time and there was no reason to think that it compromised it. i just would like to know your thoughts. Thanks

Antibiotics MAY decrease OCP effectiveness: for more on yours, see: http://www.drugs.com/pdr/ceclor.html

That's not only just something that is possible -- not guaranteed -- it also isn't something likely to render pills INeffective. A possible decrease in effectiveness doesn't mean something won't work.

Ideally, you do want to back up with a condom when taking antibiotics (which should be no big, and if you keep getting this worried, seems like that'd be a good habit to get into, period), but if you didn't, and you're worried, you can just take a pregnancy test when it's been around two weeks since your risk.

Well, shucks. [Smile]

I would not consider antibiotic interactions to present a high risk, no. The jury is still out on them period, but based on the information available, I'd say at most, you're just looking at them possibly causing a slight decrease in effectiveness.

(Out of curiosity, why have you needed antibiotic therapy so much?))

hehe [Smile] thank you so much. Anywho, to answer ur question, i got three REALLY bad bladder infections (like peeing blood within and hour) and so i needed medicine for that. Now, the first dose didnt work so i had to have another round for them. Also, now that i am back at school, there is this like bug going around that i have caught and it has gotten soooooo bad so i had to be put on antibiotics. So between the bladder infections and this, im pretty much a mess in that area [Frown] lol
