My friend recently started taking birth control. Due to unclear directions, she didn't take them correctly. As of now, she's been on her period for 13 days and is in a lot of pain. She's going to the doctor soon, but I was just wondering if there's anything to be concerned with. Thanks.

Neither of those things should be happening via not taking BCPs correctly. The only reason I can think of -- and even that might not bring that on -- that might happen is if she took a pile of pills all at once.

She should go to her doctor NOW, while she's having the bleeding, and also make a point of asking HOW to use her BC, especially given her doc should have explained that to her.

(Good on you for being such a concerned friend.)
