Me and my boyfriend had sex 7 times in the last month.. properly using condoms (no holes, no leaks, no rips/tears). I am starting to lightly spot, but within this entire month I went through a rough time... causing me to not eat and be depressed and I lost 10 pounds.. so I have been extremely stressed out.. should I be worried about being pregnant or not?

Probably not, as long as you used the condoms correctly, which you reported you did.

Stress and changes in diet/weight can hugely effect your period, so if you have some wonkiness that's more likely the reason.

If you only experience some spotting this month and don't receive a full period at all, you could take a pregnancy test just to make sure, but again, it's not likely.

(By the way, hon, have you seen a doctor at all related to the depression and the not eating?)

Well, I got my period thankfully.

I haven't seen a doctor for my depression.. I was on depression pills I think paxil, but I don't know that pill never really helped my depression so I stopped taking them. I just stopped eating cause I was really depressed, like my body sorta rejected me eating food, loss of apetite.

by the way, is there any birth control that works well with getting rid of cramps?and makes you not gain weight, like a low estrogen one? cause.. I think I should set up a gyno appt since I started having sex now.

thank you for your help. [Smile]

GREAT idea about seeing a gynecologist since you're now sexually active, good for you. [Smile] In addition to that, have both you and your boyfriend been looking into getting a full STI screenings done? You can do so at the gynecologist and he can in a public clinic or his personal doctor. That's also part of good sexual health care and until you have both received two full screenings, 6 months apart, you should continue to use condoms. (And just use condoms, regardless, to help prevent pregnancy even if you do start hormonal birth control)

Different pill prescriptions will cause you to have different side-effects, and different women react differently, so we can't tell you for sure which pill is best for you. That's why you'll want to discuss it with your gynecologist, you'll probably be prescribed a low-dose pill and see how it does, and if after a couple of months your body isn't adjusting well you can try a different prescription.

Most prescriptions will usually help with periods and cramping, and as far as weight gain, the amount most people might typically gain can be avoided with good diet and exercise.

When did you stop taking the pills for depression? Was it right before you big appetitie loss? Did you stop taking them without your doctor's approval and just stopping abruptly? All of these could be factors in why you lost your appetite and problems you were having, as there can be consequences to stopping your medications too abruptly. Also, what sort of resources do you have available as far as counseling or therapy go?
