i always used to have very heavy periods and very painfull ones and my doctor put me on one type of tablet that i had to take as soon as my period came on but it didnt help so he put me on the pill a year ago. The thing is im gay so i dont need the pill as a contraceptive and i was just wondering if i would need to be on this forever as a way to keep my periods under control or could they just sort themselves out at some point.

That really depends on the why of your period pain. If it's simply a matter of a slight hormone imbalance which the pill is correcting, then yes, it's not likely you'll need to be on them forever.

As well, you can have a smilar sort of fix by dietary and nutrition changes, so you can talk to a nutritionist.

But since over time, hormone levels shift, that may change for you on it's own. Personally, I was on the pill at a very young age for menstrual issues as well (of course, this was before the advent of OTCs like Advil), and I was able to go off of it right at my twenties, making some minor lifestyle and dietary changes, and save every now and then, I'm just fine, especially after the first day.
